Research Fellow
Jordan Calinoff is VP, Revenue and Strategy at Horizen Labs, a leading blockchain development company with an expertise in zero knowledge cryptography. Previously he ran the US Stress Scenario Coordination and Analysis team at UBS. Prior to that, he worked at Elliott Management, a $73bn multi-strategy hedge fund, where he eventually led research on Energy, Global Macro, Political Risk and Emerging/Frontier Market investments out of the New York office. Jordan started his career in Asia. Initially as an investigative journalist based in Shanghai, where he was published in dozens of newspapers and magazines, and then working under the Chief Asia Markets Strategist at JPMorgan Asset Management in Hong Kong. He holds a BSFS from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and an MIA from Columbia University in International Finance and Economics.
Jordan's research focuses on the application of blockchain and other distributed ledger technologies in real world financial and enterprise use cases. Specifically, as more and more assets are digitized and tokenized, there is a need for increased scalability and confidentiality in blockchain technology. In order to solve this problem, a type of cryptography called zero knowledge proofs can be used. However, this technology is still in its nascent state and emerging pilot programs will soon bear out whether it will be the key to unlocking massive adoption of blockchains in our financial lives. Jordan is focused on how this type of cryptography can be applied to allow blockchains to reach finality faster while remaining equally decentralized. He is also researching the use of zero knowledge cryptography to create a level of confidentiality for transactions that occur on a permissionless blockchain.
