Andreas Furrer

Visiting Scholar

Prof. Dr Andreas Furrer is a Swiss lawyer, teacher, researcher, advocate and entrepreneur. He is a founding member of the Law Faculty at the University of Lucerne (2001) and since then Professor of Private Law, Comparative Law, Private International Law and European Law. He has studied, researched and taught at the Universities of Fribourg (CH), St. Gallen (CH), the European University Institute (EUI/Florence), Saarbrücken (GER) and Bremen (GER) as well as at Tokyo University (JPN). For many years, he was a partner in a major Swiss law firm, a pioneer in DLT law, where he advised on various DLT projects and built up the transport and logistics, export control and compliance department. From 2020 to 2023 he joined a start-up as CLO, where he was responsible for building a legal framework to enable legally effective and compliant execution of digital blockchain-based transactions. Today, he is Special Counsel for the major Swiss Law firm Meyerlustenberger Lachenal Froriep AG and he teaches DLT-Law and law of digital transactions at the University of Lucerne, as well as researching, lecturing and publishing in these areas. Based on this broad academic, legal and entrepreneurial experience, he advises companies and startups, especially in the development of digital projects and the expansion of entrepreneurial business activities in Web3 and Metaverses. He also advises companies on their business activities in the United Arab Emirates, where he works with a successful network of local experts.
